Beneath the Bay is a family-run business founded by Michael and Tammy Bellette, offering unparalleled underwater adventures in Batemans Bay. We’re dedicated to providing unique diving opportunities and are known for our passion, experience and expertise.
Beneath the Bay is a PADI-certified dive operator based in Batemans Bay, welcoming divers from Canberra, the South Coast and beyond for Double Boat Dives, Snorkelling and PADI training courses.
Our Experiences and Courses
We are wholeheartedly committed to providing one of a kind diving opportunities, ranging from heart-pounding encounters with sharks to witnessing the splendour of reef and coral. Our offerings extend to family-friendly snorkelling experiences, Guided Shore Dives and the convenience of private dive charters. Plus, we also offer hire equipment and air/nitrox tank fills to ensure your diving needs are met.

PADI Open Water Diver
PADI Open Water Diver is the first scuba certification level. A highly trained PADI Instructor will teach you how to scuba dive in a relaxed, supportive learning environment. By the end of the course, you'll have the skills to dive at home or abroad.
2 days (pool dives + 4 OW dives)

Great boat and an incredibly friendly team. The crew are very knowledgeable about the region and always choose the best dive sites for the day, depending on the conditions. They’re loads of fun and make the whole experience fantastic. We were lucky to have the grey nurse sharks back, and the visibility was perfect!
I did a double boat dive with Beneath the Bay and had an absolutely amazing experience. Communication with Tammy was fantastic — I booked last minute and she was super accommodating.
The dives themselves were incredible. Mick, Sandra, and Dan have excellent local knowledge of all the best spots. We dived Cathedral and Shark Gutter, where we saw around 14 Grey Nurse Sharks! Mick and Sandra were our DMs and kept everyone safe and comfortable throughout.
The whole operation ran smoothly — great well equipped double hull boat with plenty of space, well-maintained equipment, and an awesome surface interval spread with fresh gourmet wraps, biscuits, lollies, coffee, tea, and hot soup.
Overall, an outstanding experience from start to finish. I’ll definitely be back! They’ll soon be offering guided shore and night dives too, which I’m already looking forward to. Thanks so much Tammy and Mick - Beneath the Bay!

Wow what a weekend!
After having our shore dive postponed due to the conditions, my group and I had to wait several months for the next season.
As soon as diving was back on the cards, Tammy and Mick contacted us and set up our dive as soon as possible!
Not only was this process quick and easy, but they were so well organised that everything ran absolutely perfectly on the day.
Tom and Emily were perhaps the best instructor and dive master one could ask for. Cool, calm, professional, I and my party felt not only well instructed but safe in their hands. Safety is absolutely paramount to them and I felt so secure in the entire day’s movements.
I cannot recommend Beneath the bay enough - they have made me absolutely hooked on diving and I will be telling all of my friends!

We have had a fantastic and professional diving experience with the Beneath the Bay team! We went for a Scuba Refresher with 2 dives and we felt we were in really good hands. We managed to see a massive ray and various sharks near the tollgate islands which was an amazing experience :)
Had a great dive today with Beneath the Bay. They have been wonderful with communication and rescheduling dives if conditions were not looking good. Great crew, nice food onboard & very knowledgeable of the local area. Will definitely re-book in the future.

What an amazing business, and amazing people. A massive thank you to Tammy, Mick, Tom and Emily who helped me gain my open water license this weekend. As someone who tends to panic, Tom was an amazing instructor, able to completely calm me down and instil confidence to keep going and achieve my goal.

I can hands down say that the team at Beneath the Bay were one of the best I’ve ever dived with. They were able to accommodate our group of 12 with only a couple of hours notice, providing us with the most amazing hospitality and saved our weekend. Their organisation was brilliant!! The dive boat was modern, loads of room and a hot water hose for after the dive (saved the day after a chilly dive!!)
Just completed my Open Water certification with Tom and Emily and it was an amazing experience! Tom and Emily were both fantastic instructors and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire process. Tammy was so lovely - she is a great communicator and made the entire experience very smooth! Can't recommend Beneath the Bay enough!
Beneath the Bay provided a fantastic scuba diving experience for our family. Despite the less-than-perfect conditions, Mick and the team were professional, friendly, and made sure everyone, including the kids, felt comfortable and confident underwater. The dive sites around Tollgate Islands are stunning, and although we missed the shark gutter this time, the marine life we saw was incredible. Tammy and Mick’s passion and knowledge make the whole trip seamless and enjoyable. We can’t wait to dive with them again on our next visit – highly recommended for divers of all levels.
Thanks to Mick and the team. We had a really pleasant and relaxing pair of dives on Saturday, despite the water being a little murky still. Lots of GNS, plus a couple of wobbegongs and morays certainly helps. Some of the photos other took are quite good.
The service was excellent, both in the knowledge sharing and in diver experience. We added two more divers to the scubadogs, which will hopefully lead to more awareness of and business for Beneath the Bay. Having a vibrant community of divers, multiple shore dive options, and a local boat operator is a win-win for all.

Beneath the Bay made my experience of becoming open water certified so special and amazing. The communication and friendliness would be unmatched to anywhere I’ve been before. I was going on a holiday and wanted to get my certification as soon as possible and they went out of their way to make that happen. Tom my instructors was amazing and the best you could ask for.

Had 2 amazing dives , the first was diving with majestic Grey nurse sharks, what a thrill , 2nd dive was checking out some local soft corals at Jimmy's Island, highly recommend Beneath the Bay.
Such an awesome day with the crew from Beneath the Bay! Everyone was just so happy to be there, staff very attentive and patient. Good quality dive gear also noted, lots of time to set up your gear/eat & drink/get your bearings back on the boat. Highly recommend, hope to be back again :)
Very impressed with how this crew operates. My tank fell out at the surface…..not a problem. I was helped to get BC and tank off in the water so I could get back on the boat. I enjoyed the healthy options for a snack. Highly recommend this charter group. And the diving was fantastic with a great dive master.
We had such an amazing time with the beneath the bay crew! As a beginner diver it was really comforting to be surrounded by such experienced and patient divers. I felt my form improve in just two dives! The sites were absolutely spectacular and we swam with grey nurses, cuttlefish and a school of king fish (and much more)!

I can not express how grateful I am of the Beneath the bay crew! Since their very first day of opening they have been so welcoming and encouraging of me and my photography. They have supported me in so many ways including guiding me through my PADI course to help me become a certified diver.
Mentored me through all my diving experiences and just opened up a whole other world for me, my photography and story telling.
They have supported my photography by also promoting my work all over their social medias!
